The Working Group to Stop Bill C-51 continued it's bi-weekly petition campaign during the month of June with an eye on the Senate, where Bill C-59 was moving towards being passed as law before the end of the parliamentary session.
Knowing full well that Bill C-59 doesn't come anywhere close to the promised “fix” of Bill C-51, the 215th picket at 22nd Street Station in New Westminster and 216th picket at Scott Road Station were no less important. Just as in the weeks, months, and years previous – the Working Group continues to find both interest and indignation from many people who had hoped that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would follow through on his election campaign promises to respect democratic and human rights.
On June 21, 2019 the Liberal government's Bill C-59 received “Royal Assent” and officially became law in Canada. This is another step backwards for human rights in Canada, and the Working Group is now committed to the ongoing campaign to repeal both Bill C-51 and Bill C-59!
REPEAL BILL C-51 & BILL C-59!
